Management told us that the “speech” could last two hours. Sure, that’s fair enough. We’ve been warned. No dates, appointments or meetings in that period of time.
However, they lacked foresight because the two hours became four (or they lacked assertiveness to tell this VIP that they could only allot two hours).
Let’s say you’re supposed to meet someone that night and you told them you could only meet him (or her) after only the aforementioned time so it’s alright (or so you think). But since this insensitive guy who I think is enamored by the sound of his own voice, couldn’t control himself and had disregarded the little known fact that maybe, just maybe, people have their own lives outside of work. I’m not sure about this but the last time I checked, we do not put work above everything else. These people have other responsibilities and obligations (like family for example).
I think I heard someone the next day saying that he had to make a call but since he was stuck in the said “speech,” I could only imagine the consequences if that phone call was very important.
Or let ‘s say you have a date. With a person you were intimate but lately had a falling out with. And this date is your chance to make up for every shitty thing you’ve done. You can’t afford to piss this person off.
And then you’re late for your date.
I wonder how things would’ve turned out.
But I digress.
