What Happens to the Watchmen?

The rights go to Fox, that’s what.

As you all know, Fox has been contesting WB’s rights to the Watchmen movie. Note that not only Fox claims the rights but also do not want WB to ever release the film…even if the news of the film in production and the fans buzz surrounding it. On WB’s side, on the other hand, they didn’t seem to take action to make sure all legalities were ok before giving Snyder the green light to make the movie. Oi vei…

According to the Associated Press,

LOS ANGELES – A U.S. federal judge has ruled that 20th Century Fox owns a copyright interest in “Watchmen,” potentially jeopardizing the superhero movie’s March release…

…Fox sued to prevent its release and Feess had set a Jan. 20 trial, but reversed course in writing that Fox at least owns the right to distribute the film.

Fox claims it never fully relinquished its rights to the story from a deal made in the late 1980s. Warner spokesman Scott Rowe declined to comment on the latest ruling.

I just wish something will get worked out so we can all see the movie.
