Pigeon Network Protocol

I don’t know how I did, but once, I ended up reading this on the interwebs:

Network Working Group                                        D. Waitzman

A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers

Status of this Memo

This memo describes an experimental method for the encapsulation of
IP datagrams in avian carriers.  This specification is primarily
useful in Metropolitan Area Networks.  This is an experimental, not
recommended standard.

And then I saw this today, via BoingBoing:

Pigeons are faster than DSL

A South African IT company got so fed up with the national telco’s notoriously poor Internet service that they decided to set up a race that pitted the telco’s network against a carrier pigeon. The pigeon won.

Life IS stranger than fiction.
