In what can only be described as a ridiculous act of totalitarianism, the CCP will now require state approval for being born into a different body. The new law targets Buddhist monks who as we all know, believe in reincarnation and China doesn’t want to grant Tibetans independence. Specifically, the government is avoiding the Dalai Lama into being reborn into the country. As such, China will assign a Dalai Lama when the current one passes.

The current one, however, doesn’t have plans of being reborn into Tibet as long as China occupies it. If China has its way, however, there will be two Dalai Lamas.

People, more starkly, wonder…how the hell will China enforce this for people who will not be the Dalai Lama?

On a not-so-serious note, my co-worker is in Beijing right now. He’s there alone and he doesn’t speak the language. He didn’t want to go there but he had no choice.

Zhejian, China–scrap metal dealer, Mr. Zhu, geeked out when he decided to build life-sized Transformers-like robots from stuff in his haul.

And we’re not talking about plates, hinges and kibble from household stuff–we’re dealing with motorcycles and cars here:

Sure, they don’t really tranform nor they’re actual characters from any Transformers continuity, but still…just being able to make something like that would surely attract attention. And that’s just what Mr. Zhu wants. He claims he built the model to advertise his business.

Not surprisingly, the Transformers was just as big a hit, if not bigger, in China back in the 80′s as it was with the rest of the world where the show was broadcast. It’s been more than 20 years and all those kids now are more capable of being than just fans pestering their parents to buy them the toys.

But I think I’m part of a majority here–he’s just a geek . So, between this guy and the father who turned their mustang into Barricade, who’s the bigger geek?

It’s no secret that China is censoring the internet over there, encouraging netizens to "advance harmony". But with the recent earthquake (and more recent aftershock) in Sichuan province, the Chinese blogosphere was mostly empathic, thus eliminating the need to "shut up dissidents."

However, when bloggers start to criticize the less than sympathetic response of some entities, the cutesy Jing Jing and Chacha (guardians of–gasp–Chinese online harmony) pounced to do their jobs.

It’s nice to know that China does not let a natural disaster get in its way of doing things.
