Nerds and fans all over raged over Manoj Night Shymalan’s casting of white people in leading roles in the Asian and Inuit dominant characters for The Last Airbender. If it weren’t for the Slumdog Millionaire as Prince Zuko, it would be all white people.

I normally don’t have fanboyish expectations for adaptations but this is twist-crazy Shymalan we’re talking about and the cultural roots of the base material sorta makes Caucasian casting really…precarious.

So is it? Let’s take a look at Aang, the last airbender:

I was actually wishing they’d come out with a toy for that robot. I would’ve so bought that. I’m referring to this guy:

Geez…cutesy figurines? I was hoping they’d come up with a Deluxe class figure. Oh wel…I guess a joke can only go so far.

I hope Snyder didn’t mess this up. The fanboys can moan all they want–they really shouldn’t matter–but I really hope the serious critics will be satisfied. At least the production design looks great.

Creationism Movie Producer Expels ID Critic but Lets in Outspoken Atheist

Ah yes, the irony of it.

A blogger-scientist and vocal critic of intelligent design and creationism was shown out the door of a movie theater premiering a creationism movie. The producer himself requested staff to be on the look out for this guy and this guy only.

No biggie, right? They have that right.

His family and guest, however, were let in. Now, here’s the kicker: his guest is a very famous atheist (and an ID critic himself).

The Creationism-Evolution debate remains to be a controversial topic. I am not prepared to discuss nor will I allow arguments for one over the other for either side in this site. I already have my own views about the topic but I’m not telling which side. Just appreciate how funny life sometimes gets, ok? Peace.

Watchmen the Movie Promotional Pics

Zack Snyder–the dude who directed 300–released character pics for the upcoming Watchmen flick in his production blog. He wanted something to whet people’s appetites as the movie still has a year to go before its release.

Personally, I like them, except for the fact that Veidt doesn’t look snooty enough. Fan reactions vary, as most people are already skeptical because of the history of movie adaptations of Alan Moore’s works. Of course, everybody already knows what Alan has to say (or not say) about this.

I’m actually looking forward to this but with much trepidation.
