The Last Airbender Sequel Trailer Now Available

SDCC just officially announced the much-awaited, much anticipated the Last Airbender sequel: The Legend of Korra.

The series is about a young avatar (Korra) in several generations after Aang restored peace in the world. The visuals seem to be inspired by 1920′s China (probably Shanghai), New York and San Francisco, evident by the level of industrialization compared to the original series.

This new series should wash out the bad taste Manoj Shymalan left us with that horrible, horrible movie.

Nerds and fans all over raged over Manoj Night Shymalan’s casting of white people in leading roles in the Asian and Inuit dominant characters for The Last Airbender. If it weren’t for the Slumdog Millionaire as Prince Zuko, it would be all white people.

I normally don’t have fanboyish expectations for adaptations but this is twist-crazy Shymalan we’re talking about and the cultural roots of the base material sorta makes Caucasian casting really…precarious.

So is it? Let’s take a look at Aang, the last airbender:

Setting Expectations for the Last Airbender Movie

I found this ad while browsin’ one of ‘em image boards. I think this should set the bare minimum for effects for the Last Airbender movie.

I mean, the water bending there didn’t even involve ice yet. The earth bending only handled sand. The air, only with leaves (kinda difficult to see air, dontchatink?).

Manoj Night Shyamalan will either impress or fail miserably….and no twist endings in this movie please.
